Mrs. Gwen Davis, age 59 of Lufkin, passed away Monday, November 12, 2007 while vacationing in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Mrs. Davis was born November 1, 1948 in Kennard to the late Annie Mae Laverne (Reeves) and Robert Guinn Parrish, and had resided in Lufkin for the past 30 years.
Mrs. Davis loved her family, she was focused on those she loved. Mrs. Davis cherished her husband of 29 years, Ray Davis. Mrs. Davis and Ray were self-employed for the last 29 years. Mrs. Davis's daughters were a source of pride to her. Mrs. Davis cared for her sons-in-law and frequently commented on their thoughtfulness and consideration.
Mrs. Davis most beloved dream of grandchildren was a mission for which she was highly accomplished. Each one could claim a special place in her heart. Mrs. Davis was adept at making them feel special. Mrs. Davis siblings were never far from her thoughts and she looked forward to family reunions.
Mrs. Davis loved autumn, especially the fall leaves and she loved decorating her home to reflect the seasons. Mrs. Davis was fond of traveling and never missed a chance to see new places.
Mrs. Davis was a role model of compassion and a spokesperson for concern. Mrs. Davis frequently exhibited random acts of kindness and never met a stranger and you never left her home hungry or in need.
Survivors include her husband of 29 years, Jesse Ray Davis, of Lufkin; daughters and sons-in-law Kimberly and Mickey Swor and Pamela and Calvin Toups, all of Lufkin; grandchildren Jennifer Drummond, Ashley Toups, Meagan Swor, Colton Toups and Gwynna Swor; great-grandchildren Kaylee, Kamree and Kole Drummond; sister, Beth Carroll, of Atlanta, Ga.; brothers Jerry Parrish, of Kennard, Gary Parrish, of Crockett, Kenneth "Bo" Parrish and Don Parrish, both of Kennard; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Gwen Davis will be held Friday, November 16, at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway-Claybar Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Bill Bailey and Brother Reagan Duncan officiating. Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery in Trinity County.
Pallbearers will be James Parrish, Randy Parrish, Brian Parrish, Phil Parrish, Michael Parrish, Matthew Parrish and Devon Parrish.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75231-4596.
