Joseph Herbert Allen, 72, died Saturday [March 31, 1990] at Sts. Mary & Elizabeth Hospital. He was a Meade County native, a retired furnace department employee at the old Air-Co Carbide Corp., where he had worked 42 years, an Army veteran of WW II and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Churchill Downs Post #2921 and Civilian Conservation Corps. Survivors: a daughter, Patricia A. Allen; 2 sons, Donald J. & Paul A. Allen; 9 sisters, Beatrice Hardesty of Payneville, Sherry R. Abledinger of Wisconsin, Velma M. Hall and Rita G. Kessinger, both of Meade County, Nellie Warren, Wanda Branson, Mary Cain, Florene E. Mahoney, and Bessie L. Kendall; 6 brothers, Chester L. Allen of Bullitt Co., KY, Daryl D. Allen of Meade Co., KY, James A. Allen of Missouri, and Raymond E., Everett W. & Louis R. Allen; and 4 grandchildren. Funeral: 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 6105 S. Third St., with entombment in Louisville Memorial Gardens, West Mausoleum. Visitation: O.D. White & Sons Funeral Home, 2727 S. Third St. after 1 p.m. Sunday.
