Julia Catherine Wallis was the daughter of Josiah and Julia A. Ramey Wallis of Cobb County, GA. The Josiah Wallis family home still stands on Burnt Hickory Rd. on Kennesaw National Battlefield Park land. The home is now on the historic registry and will be restored.

On October 14, 1869, Julia Wallis married Pinkney Madison Hairston in Cobb County, GA (Cobb County Marriage Book A. 1865-1876, p. 239). They were married by W.H. Campbell, M.G. They were married at the residence of Josiah Wallis, Julia's father. They lived in the family home (Josiah Wallis house) on Burnt Hickory Road and this home was known as the Hairston home and remained in the hands of the descendants of the Hairston family for over a hundred years.

Julia and Pinkney had ten children: Elmer Josiah, Matilda Estelle, Ida Lou, Olive Roberta "Ollie", Ina Mildred, Pearlie Mae, George Clifton, Julia Katherine "Kate", Madison Palmer "Pal" and Mattie Leila Hairston.

Julia died of cancer and the large rock near the old home place marks the site of where she sat as she died.

We deeply sympathize with Mr.[P]T.M Hairston and family in the death of the wife and mother. There has always been a tender spot in my heart for Mr. Hairston, we went through the Civil War together.
