MRS. W. A. DRAKE DIES; PRIVATE RITES PLANNED
Mrs. Elizabeth Young Drake, 59, Arlington, VA., wife of Col. William A. Drake, U.S. Army retired, and a former Carthage resident, died Tuesday following an extended illness.
The body will arrive here Friday and will be received by the Knell Mortuary.
Private funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Canon Vincent C. Root, Grace Episcopal church rector. The body will be placed in the Drake family crypt in Oak Crest mausoleum, Park Cemetery.
Colonel Drake and his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John Drake, the two latter of Golden, Colorado will come to Carthage the later part of the week.
Mrs. Drake, the former Miss Elizabeth Young, was born August 29, 1906 in Joplin. she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Victor Young of Joplin.
Colonel and Mrs. Drake made their home in Carthage several years before going east. He is a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Sherwood Drake and grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Drake, prominent early-day Carthage residents.
A son, Second Lt. Sherwood Drake, U.S. Marine Air Corps, died November 10, 1955 in Millington Naval Base Hospital, Memphis Tennessee of injuries received in a Navy trainer plane accident. Lieutenant Drake was attempting to land his jet trainer near the base at the time of the accident. He was 24.
The body of Lieutenant Drake was returned to Carthage and placed int he mausoleum.

Private services will be held Saturday at the Knell Mortuary for Mrs. William A. Drake, Arlington, VA., formerly of Carthage. The Rev. Canon Vincent C. Root of Grace Episcopal church will conduct the services. The body will be placed in Oak Crest Abbey, Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Drake, the former Miss Betty Young, Joplin, died Tuesday in Washington, D.C.
