Carter, who came to this area as a boy, was born April 6, 1887 at Dexter, Iowa. He worked at logging and was an employee of the Columbia River Paper Mill from the time it was built until about 1944.
Survivors include his widow, Etta, at home; sons, Amos and Almond, both of Ridgefield; a brother, Jack, of Hillsboro; and three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Thursday, at the Hamilton Funeral Home, the Rev. Vernon Ross Jr., officiating. Interment will be in Park Hill Cemetery.
