Joe V. Ward, 51, died Jan 31, 1985 at the Veterans Hospital in Denver after a lengthy illness.
Born in La Veta, May 31, 1933, he marred the former Mary Wright in Walsenburg on Nov 8, 1955 and served during the Korean Conflict until 1957. After leaving the Navy he and his wife returned to La Veta for several years. They had been living in Bluewater NM for the past 26 years. Mr. Ward was a uranium miner and training director in New Mexico. He was a member of the Elks BPOE #2053 in Grants Rodeo Club and St. Teresa Catholic Church,
Mr. Ward in survived by his wife, Mary of the family home; five sons, Kim Ward, Joe Ward Jr, Jim Ward, Don Ward and Bill Ward, all of Bluewater; three daughters, Deloras McConnell, Gallup NM, Kathleen Jaramillo, Albuquerque NM and Julie Ward of the family Home: five brothers, Donald Ward Jr., Bremerton, WA, David Ward, Shelton, WA, Charles Ward, Oceanside, CA, Moses Ward and Melvin Ward, Colorado Springs; three sisters, Mildred Largent, Colorado Springs, Edith Carter, Colorado Springs, and Ophelia Wells, Walsenburg; 15 grand children and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian burial was at Christ the King Catholic Church in La Veta Monday Burial was in old La Veta cemetery
