Mr. Ward was employed by the railroad for sixteen years and by the county for seven years. He spent several years working for the Forest service and retired after several
years of farming.
He was a member of Christ the King Church in La Veta and the former overseer of the old La Veta cemetery. Ward was preceded in death by his wife Matilda in 1948.
Survivors include seven sons William La Veta, Donald and David of Washington State, Joe New Mexico, Charles California, Moses and Melvin, both of Colorado Springs. Daughters, Mrs. Ophelia Wells Walsenburg Colorado, and Mrs. Carter and Mrs. Mildred Largent Colorado Springs. Brothers including Velini Ward of La Veta. Sister Mrs. Vigil of Walsenburg. 27 Grandchildren and 6 great-grand
children.
Scripture Rosary was recited Sunday at 7 pm, and mass of the resurrection was Monday at 10 am. Burial was in La Veta Cemetery. Murphy Lawson Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
