Nov. 4, 1934 - Mar. 12, 2010
KNOX - Betty Jean Bailey Fisher, 75, of Knox, passed away Friday, March 12, 2010. Betty was born November 4, 1934 in Claypool, IN, to German and Martha Bailey, both deceased. She attended California Township School and graduated from North Judson High School in 1952. On May 17, 1952, she married Henry George Fisher. Henry went home to the Lord Feb. 10, 2002. She is survived by a daughter, Kathy Surma (Walter) of Knox; and two sons, Roger Fisher of Knox and Wayne Fisher of Knox; a sister, Paula Smith of North Judson; and two brothers, Dave Bailey of Merrillville and James Bailey of Knox. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Hardesty (Max) who went home to the Lord on Sept. 25, 2008 after a 9 1/2 year battle with cancer; and brothers, Bill, Arthur Joe and Charles John Bailey. Betty leaves behind many wonderful friends and acquaintances. She loved living and giving. Her children, 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. She loved them all, but some were closer to love on. There are three grandchildren she never saw, as they live in Germany. The kids called her "Boop" and loved going to Boop's house. She was enough of a kid herself to play with them and always read to them. Books were one of her joys. Visitation will be Monday, March 15, 2010, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the M.C. Smith Funeral Home. Funeral service Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at 11 a.m. in M.C. Smith Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Round Lake Cemetery. Betty enjoyed flowers while living, but doesn't need them in death, please make memorial contributions to the Linda Hardesty Scholarship Fund instead.
