C.H. Chase Dies in Old Forge at age 44
Old Forge - Charlie H. Chase 41, veteran of World War 1, died Aug. 11, 1946, in his home in Pullman ave., this village.
He was born in Middlefield, Otsego County, son of James and Ella Fowler Chase. he attended schools in Cooperstown and Schuyler Lake.
he served in the national Guard at Fort Riley, Kas., enlisting in the Regular Army as Buglar, and postal clerk during World War 1 and serving over seas.
Following his medical discharge and returning home, he attended the School of Commerce, utica. Later he attended Bryant Straton Business College in Buffalo.
On Aug. 5, 1923 he married Ola Denlo at Big Moose. They made their home in Cooperstown until moving to Utica and later back to Richfield Springs where he was associated with the National Bank for five years.
In 19__ the family moved to Old Forge where he was employed by the conservation department. In June, 1941, he accepted a position with the First National bank of Old Forge. when he resigned to serve as observer at Rondaxe Mountain conservation tower in which part he continued until July 15 when he retired because of illness.
he was a member of the VFW, Schuyler Lake Lodge, F&AM; past master of North Woods Lodge, F&AM; Royal Arch masons 222, Richfield Springs, and Nicolls Memorial Church of Old Forge.
He leaves his widow, three daughters, Mrs. Ralph Austin, Ella Jane Chase and Amy Louise Chase; a son, Robert, allof Old Forge; a sister, Mrs. Cora Sperry, Cooperstown, and two brothers, Lee J., Mohawk and Earl C., Cooperstown.
Masonic services will be conducted in the home at 8 p.m. today with prayer services in the home at 2 p.m. tomorrow and at Niccolls memorial Church at 3:30. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Old Forge.
