Green Conley, 77, well-known Van Lear resident, died in a local hospital Saturday, November 15, 1958 at 7:30 a.m.,following an illness of six months. The son of the later Hiram F. and Mary Ann Estep Conley, he was born in the county March 23, 1881. He had made his home at Van Lear for forty-two years and prior to his retirement had been employed as a miner. He was a member of the West Van Lear Church of Christ, the Van Lear Lodge 885 F. & A. M. and formerly served as Chief of Police. His wife, Mollie Burke Conley, preceded him in death September 7, 1954. Surviving are six sons, Bearl, Guy, and Stewart Conley, allof Van Lear;; Scott Conley; Paintsville; Henry and Charles Conley, both of Ashland; three daughters,Miss Sophia Conley, Mrs. Mary Jasper and Mrs. Jack Stratton,all of Van Lear. Also surviving are the following brothers and sisters:Mrs. Jospehine Ward and Mrs. Mintie Webb, both of Ohio; Mrs. Lula Adams and Mr. John B. Conley, both of Hurley, W. Va.;Mrs. Lula McFaddin and Mrs. Barbara Ellen Faddin andMrs. Barbara Ellen Webb, both of Paintsville; Mrs. Addie Blair,Collista; Hayden Conley, Hager Hill; Marcus Conley,Kingsport, Tenn; Bascom Conley, Russell, Ky., eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at the West Van Lear Church of Christ at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday with Rev. S. C. Honeycutt and Rev. Cecil Sherman as officiating ministers.
Graveside rites were conducted by the Masons.
Burial was in the Cumbo Cemetery at West Van Lear.
