Mrs. Ida L. Porter, who formerly lived here, died in the Mary E. Bivens Nursing Home in Amarillo Wednesday, April 10, about 8:30 p.m. She was 86 years of age and had lived away from here most of the time for about 10 years.
Mrs. Porter was born Oct. 6, 1876, in Scott County, AR. She was married to James Kenny Porter Sept. 6, 1893, at Cauthron, AR and in 1900 they moved to Texas, locating at Clarendon.
Forty-six years ago they came to near Wellington where they farmed until his retirement. Mr. Porter preceded her in death Feb. 26, 1952.
She had been a devoted member of the Methodist church since she was 12 years of age and she also was a member of the Rebekah Lodge.
Surviving Mrs. Porter are two sons and four daughters: Marshall Porter of Bell, CA; Wilson Porter of Wellington; Mrs. A.B. Smith of Borger; Mrs. M.F. Tibbetts of Lefors; Mrs. Minette Propes of Dallas and Mrs. Ova Gadd of Denver, CO. There are 20 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
