Her friends all knew her as “Bones,” and her family called her “Joni.” Bones passed away at 3:30 pm on Monday, April 20th at Liberty Country Place in Centralia, Washington, having succumbed to pancreatic cancer. She was comforted during her last months by the presence of many family and friends who visited, called, and sent cards and she left this life knowing she was well-loved by many.

Her family moved to Hood River, Oregon in 1944 where she graduated from High School and met her spouse of 60 years, Marvin ‘Cy’ Meyers, the son of Elmer and Alma (Kitchel) Meyers of Hood River. Cy and Bones were married on January 19, 1949 in Hood. They moved to Winlock in 1960 where they raised their four children.

Bonita worked for the Lewis County News, now The Town Crier, as Editor and Reporter from 1967 until January of 2009, when she became too ill to continue. She is best remembered for her column, "Loose Ends," her human interest stories, and photographic coverage of school and community events.

Following her death, family and friends gathered at Winlock Middle School Gymnasium for a Celebration of Life (held Saturday, April 25th). Additionally a rosary and a Mass was held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Winlock on April 27th. Bones was cremated with her ashes interred at Winlock Cemetery during a private family burial.
