Cy Meyers (Marvin B Meyers), has left this world to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Cy passed away peacefully in his sleep of congestive heart failure on Saturday, March 3, at the home of his son Sam in Winlock. Cy was 93 years old and was born on November 21, 1924 in Parkdale, Oregon, the son of Elmer and Alma (Kitchel) Meyers.
Upon graduating from Hood River High School in 1943, Cy enlisted in the US Marine Corps and served three years during WWII in the Pacific Theatre where he saw action on Iowa Jima and the Occupation of Japan. Cy served 2 years during the Korean War and finished his military service in 1952, with an Honorable Discharge.
Cy met and married the love of his life, Bonita (Judd) Meyers in Hood River where they were married on January 14, 1949. They moved to Winlock in 1959 and fell in love with the community and townspeople. Cy worked for Allegre Egg Company for many years and Bonita became first a reporter and then Editor of The Lewis County News (now The Town Crier). Cy went to work for the Winlock School District as a Custodian in 1981 and retired in 1992, devoting his retirement years to a number of volunteer and community activities and organizations for both Winlock and Lewis County residents.
Cy was always engaged in volunteer interests throughout his life, devoting himself to making Winlock a better place to live. Not all those dreams were fulfilled, nor did all of his efforts seek fruition, but he loved the town and its people and to his last days hoped for those who made Winlock their home and that the little community could revive again. Just a sprinkling mention of some of his contributions over the years: Cy served in the Lions Club in the 1960s, the Winlock Booster Club in the 1970s, and coaching Little League Baseball in the 1980s. He served as Chairman of the Board for Winlock School District in the 1970s, as a City Council Member for Winlock 1980s, 1990s and served as Mayor in the2000s. The last few years of his life found his spare time and energies devoted to honoring our veterans of all wars, and he himself was the recipient of many kind and thoughtful tributes and awards, including an Honor Flight in 2014 during which he enjoyed a trip to Washington, DC to tour the sights. He was heavily involved in both Lewis County and Washington State Republican Party activities and occasionally enjoyed serving as a delegate to state conventions. Cy was also selected to be a Washington General by Governor Gregoire, an honor reserved for those who have made a significant impact on their communities through their lifelong volunteer work. At the time of his death he was a member of the Lewis County Civil Service Commission.
Cy had little time left in his life to pursue personal hobbies, but he was a life-long University of Oregon football fan - Go Ducks! - and relished a rare afternoon when he could indulge in listening to Big Band music of the 1940s and 1950s.

Memorial services were held Friday March 9th at 1:00 pm at the Assembly of God Church in Napavine, and Graveside Services with Military Honors on Saturday March 17th at Winlock Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of Cattermole Funeral Home.
