Cumberland - Mrs. Minnie Read, 88, longtime resident of Cass County and a sister of Mrs. Jake Adams of Atlantic, died at 10:10 this morning at the Berry Nursing Home in Atlantic where she had resided for seven years. Mrs. Read was born Feb. 2 [sic], 1864, in Vermilion County, Ill., the daughter of George and Lorinda Howell. She came to Cass County with her parents [sic] as a young girl, settling in
Noble Township. On Feb. 20,1889, she married Chartes E. Read at Cumberland. They spent all their married life in Cumberland. Mr. Read died Oct. 16, 1944. Mrs. Read was a member of the Cumberland Baptist Church. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Grace Hines of Long Beach, Calif; two sisters, Mrs. Fred Adams of Red Oak and Mrs. Jake Adams of Atlantic; and one brother, Bert Howell of Coon Rapids. Funeral services are tentatively set for Saturday afternoon in Cumberland, with burial in Newlon Grove Cemetery. ATLANTIC (Iowa) NEWS-TELEGRAPH, 8 May 1952.
