Mrs. L. M. Howell died Saturday, April 3, and was buried Sunday afternoon, the funeral services being conducted in the M. E. Church by Rev. H. G. Hicks in the presence of a goodly number of friends and old settlers. The deceased came to the locality from Davis County in 1880 with her husband and settled on a farm north of town, where Mr. Howell died two years later. Six children were born to them - two boys and four girls, all living and all present at the funeral except Mrs. Shane of Emmitt [sic], Idaho. The death of Mr. Howell was the first and last in the family until Mrs. Howell's passing Saturday. The following obituary has been furnished us. Lorinda M. Hickman was born in Fairmount, Illinois, November 14, 1842, and died at her home in Coon Rapids, Iowa, April 3, 1920, aged 77 years, 5 months and 20 days. In 1860 she was united in marriage to George N. Howell and from this union six children were born, namely: Hardie H. of Cumberland, Iowa, Mrs. Minnie Read of Cumberland, Iowa, Bert of Coon Rapids, Iowa, Mrs. Howard Shane of Emmitt [sic], Idaho, Mrs. Fred Adams, near Cumberland, Iowa, and Mrs. J. A. Adams, near Lewis, Iowa. Her husband preceded her in the better land, having died September 28,1882. She was an attendant of the Methodist Church at this place, living in this community for more than forty years. She made fast friends that loved her till the end."
