Lawrence Cecil "Larry" Horne, age 86 of Vidalia, died Thursday, March 4, 2010 in the Meadows Regional Medical Center in Vidalia after an extended illness. He was a native of Laurens County and had lived most of his life in Toombs County. He was the manager of several convenient stores in Toombs County, including the Pik Quik, Handy Dandy and Handi Chek and retired in 1983 after thirty years. He served thirteen years in the U.S. Navy, was a veteran of World II and was a member of the Smith Street Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elijah and Elizabeth Kemp Horne, two brothers, Alton and R.J. Horne, and three sisters, Mae Smith, Bessie Weaver, and Docia Anderson.

Mr. Horne is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Lawanna Mosley Horne, two daughters, Lorraine (Scott) Anderson and Wanda (Keith) Dawson all of Vidalia, one son, Damon (Carol) Horne of Richmond Hill, one sister, Ruth Warren of Brunswick, one brother, Henry Calvin (Jewell) Horne of Reidsville, five grandchildren, Amanda, Stephanie, Ashley, Katie, and Noah, four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 7, 2010, at 3:00 pm in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend Jimmy Smith and Reverend Christopher Sheffield officiating. Interment will follow in the Pinecrest Cemetery with military honors by the U.S. Navy.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening March 6, 2010, from 6:00 until 8:00.
