In 1890, Thora, her husband, Jens Peter Nikolajsen, and their seven children immigrated to American and then anglicized their surname to "Nicholson." They eventually settled in Geary County and began to farm.

*Charles was their oldest child. He had just turned 14 when the family came to Kansas.

Death comes To Centralian

Charles P. Nicholson, 80, a resident of Centralia for the past 45 years, died Thursday at a nursing home following a lingering illness.

He was born July 16, 1877, in Copenhagen, Denmark. He lived in this country for the past 66 years. He was a plumber in Raymond before moving to Centralia. Nicholson had been employed as a plumber and a caretaker in the Washington Lawn cemetery. He served as adjutant and past commander of the John W. Wholley post of the Spanish American War Veterans of Centralia.

Survivors include his wife Edith, at home; son, Orin, in California; brother, George Nicholson, in Kansas city, MO, a sister Mrs. Dagny Aspelin, in Kansas, and a grandson.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m., at the Sucklin chapel, Centralia, with the Rev. Glen W. Melt officiating. Vault entombment will follow at the Greenwood Memorial Park.

During the Philippine rebellion (insurrection), which lasted from 4 February 1899 to 23 May 1901, Charles wrote ariticles regarding his participation in the rebellion which he would send to the editor of the Alta Vista (Kansas) Journal, who would then print them in his newspaper. -- Submittied by Marie Olson Kimmi
