Fidel S. Chavez, age 89, passed away in the Veteran's Administration Medical Center in Amarillo, Texas on Thursday. February 25, 2010.
Fidel was born April 24, 1920, in Alamogordo, New Mexico. He was a member of the St. Anne's Catholic Church, and Life Member of the V F W and the American Legion. He served his country during World War II in the Pacific Theater with the United States Army. He attained the rank of Private First Class.
Surviving Fidel is his wife, Lorinda Chavez of Tucumcari; three sons, Peter Gomez and wife, Lucy of Grants, New Mexico, Frank Chavez and wife, Della of Albuquerque, and Carlos Chavez and wife, Mela of Tucumcari, New Mexico; five daughters, Judy Ramon and husband, Anthony of Bovina, Texas, Lourdes Chavez of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Felicie Romero and husband, David of Tucumcari, Berna Barela and husband, Andrew of Bloomfield, New Mexico, and Valerie Diaz and husband, Gilbert of Tucumcari; his stepson, Oracio Encinias and wife, Neva of Tucumcari, New Mexico; 12 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren, and 1 great great granddaughter; his brother, Raymond Chavez of Tucumcari, and his sister, Cuca Martinez of Chino California along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gregorio and Felicitas Chavez; by a brother, Manuel Chavez, and by sisters, Margarita, Maria ,Lupe and Martha, and his granddaughter, Kristin Chavez.
Rosary will be recited on Monday evening, March 1, 2010, in the St. Anne's Catholic Church beginning at 7:00 PM. Mass of the Resurrection will be offered on Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 PM in the St. Anne's Catholic Church with Rev. Father Hyginus Anuta as Celebrant. Interment will take place in the Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery.
