Samuel Nathan was probably born in Fannin, the third child of Nathan and Sarah Hendrix. In 1901 he married Effie Bell Estep. To this union 14 children were born whom all seemed to have lived until adulthood. In 1910 Sam became the first postmaster of Padgett. On Sept. 1, 1919 he bought 80 acres in Southland. This property was sold in one acre plots and seems to be the actual town of Southland. In the 1920 census Sam is listed as being the manager of a confectionery. He was survived by his wife, 14 children and three brothers. He was proceeded in death by his parents, one brother and three sisters.
