General Francis Marion Bean was the son of Walter Bean and Elizabeth McGaillard. He married Nancy Elizabeth Bean daughter of James Douglas Bean and Sophia Caroline Hise.

General Francis Marion Bean married Nancy Elizabeth Bean on 14 Jul 1850 in Gallatin Co., IL. His mother, Elizabeth McGalliard, had died when he was young and his father, Walter Bean, remarried on 30 Aug 1838 in Jefferson Co., IL to Katherine Kimbro. G.F.M.’s father, Walter, was an Uncle to Nancy’s father, James Bean. James’s father, Jonathan that m. Katherine Skeef, was a brother to Walter that m. Elizabeth McGalliard. Walter and Jonathan were both sons of William Bean II (b. 8 Feb 1754 Ireland and d. Bef. 26 Feb 1816 Elkton, Christian Co., KY and Ann Scott Bean b. abt 1760 Ireland and d. Bef. 1842 Caldwell Co., KY.

G.F.M. and Nancy were living with Walter and Katharine at Cane Creek, Gallatin, Illinois at the time of the enumeration of the 1850 census, 28 Aug 1850.
The 1850 Federal Census lists the following:

Catharine Bean, 64 b. NC
General M Bean 19 b. IL
Nancy Bean 19 b. IL

Liberty Cumberland Presbyterian Church established in the early 1850’s by Rev. General F.M. Bean. It was first called Rogers Meeting House and it flourished until his death in 1875, after which it was finally abandoned. The Goforth Cemetery located close to the old church is overgrown with vines and trees, Located in Ridg¬way Twp. Section 16, T8S R9E on the N side of NE 1/4 of the section. Other churches were established by his ministry in the Ridgeway area.

General Francis Marion Bean enlisted for the Civil War 15 Aug 1862. His service record shows Co. H. 120th IL Vol. Inf on 29 Oct 1862. He was promoted to 2nd Lt. on 14 Mar 1863, promoted to Capt. 1 Sep 1865 and mustered out 10 Sep 1865 at Memphis, TN.
