FROM CURRENT (JUNE 2018) DNA RESULTS WALTER IS NOT A CHILD OF WILLIAM BEAN AND ANN SCOTT! IT APPEARS WALTER IS OF THE RICHARD "DICKEY" BEAN FAMILY LINE OF NORTH CAROLINA. Walter has been reported to have died in 1883 in Gallatin Co., IL in all of Bernie Bean's books. However the last time I can locate Walter is on the 1860 Gallatin Co., IL census (twp. 8 Range 9E with the post office listed as New Market, enumerated 3 Jul 1860). According to Glen Miner's Cemeteries of Gallatin Co., IL, New Market was located about 1½ miles SE of the center of Ridgway and in 1854 was platted into 120 lots, 90 of which were sold. The isolation of many cemeteries, when the roads were straightened to follow the surveyed land lines contributed to the loss of many of the cemeteries. Once isolated, without access roads, the fields were often fenced for pasture and the livestock became the vandals as they sought shade under the cedars, which were usually a part of the old cemeteries.

(However, there is another Walter and Katherine, younger in age, in Jefferson Co.) There is an old tombstone in the Jones Cem. sometimes known as Kirk Cem. Located NE of Ridgeway, about 1 m. along road 1/4 mi S. of where William Pfister's farm was, Ridgeway twp. T85 R9E Sect. 17 in the E. Center of the section bearing the inscription, Rosetta Bean dau of Walter and Catherine Bean. She was born in 1883. ***~Perhaps this was the reason Walter's death date was set as 1883. Anyway, Katherine Kimbro Bean would have been about 87 years old 22 July 1870 when that census was enumerated. She would not have had a baby in 1883. ~*** There is also a link to a new tombstone for Rosetta Bean's parents, Catherine Bean and father, Walter Bean.
