Benjamin "Clyde" Smith was born near Ore Hill Furnace, Mosgrove, near the Allegheny River in Armstrong County, PA. He was the son of David John Smith and Susanna Lena Houser. Clyde married Cordelia Jordan and they were the parents of eleven children, three daughters and 8 sons. Clyde was a coal miner and the family lived in many different coal mining towns in Armstrong, Butler, and Clarion Counties. He died in the Butler Memorial Hospital.
