A large number of her Olney friends, joining groups from many Young County and Throckmorton county communities in paying last tributes to an area pioneer, went to Proffitt to attend the funeral services for Mrs. W.D. Bellomy.

Mrs. Bellomy, who died at her Proffitt home after a long illness, had lived in Young County since 1877 when her parents, who had moved to Texas from her native state of Tennessee, came to the Tonk Valley Community of Young County. They had settled briefly in Dallas County before coming to northwest Texas.

Mrs. Bellomy, who before her marriage was Miss Mary T. Ross, became the wife of W.D. Bellomy 11 November 1883. He died in 1932. In 1904, the family moved to Proffitt, where she lived the remainder of her life.

Funeral services held at the Proffitt Baptist church, were conducted by Rev. M.F. Richardson of Abilene, with Rev. John Barrett of Newcastle, Rev. I.W. Lawrence of Newcastle and Rev. Lisenbee of Elbert assisting.

Pallbearers were grandsons: Woodrow, George and W.B. Bellomy, Jr., Bruce Gober, Henry Lenior and Berry Bellomy.

Flower girls were granddaughters: Mrs. Beatrice Bellomy Duckworth of Proffitt, Mrs. Agnes B. Gober and Mrs. Doris Jean Tuttle of Grand Prairie, Mrs. Jeff Ray Keeter and Mrs. Jo Dell Farabee of Wichita Falls; Miss Flo Ella Lewis of Newcastle, Mrs. Billie Joyce Lenoir of Abilene, Miss Flo Dell Bellomy of Levelland.

Nine children survive: W.B. Bellomy, Sr., and Mrs. Mary Lewis of Newcastle; James A. Bellomy of Bledsoe, Mrs. Eva Viola Keeter of Wichita Falls, Mrs. Martha Higgins of Kinderhook, IL, Mrs. Sallie Renoir of Abilene, John H. Bellomy of Lubbock, David Bellomy of Levelland, Mrs. Laura Keeter of Elbert; 31 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Bellomy had been an active worker in the Baptist church since she joined the Murray Baptist church in 1902.
