On Thursday, 14 December 1848, Green Tilman McGuire, Sr., was twenty-eight when he was married by Justice of the Peace, John James, to nineteen year old Mary Catherine Thomason, in Campbell County (now Fulton County), Georgia. Mary Catherine Thomason was the daughter of William M. Thomason, Jr., and his first wife, Delilah (maiden name unknown).
The McGuires had thirteen children.

Green fought at Gettysburg, the deadliest, bloodiest, battle of the War Between the States and lost his hearing as a result of a shell exploding at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, on Friday, 03 July 1863.
Per Jeff Champion on Facebook's Memories of Old Campbell/Douglas County Georgia: "There are Mill Ruins at the corner of Slater Mill Road and Presley Mill Road and a large Mill Race running along the south side of the creek below an old road bed. There is a new stacked rock dam remains about 15-20 feet tall and the remains of an older dam about 30 or so feet up the creek. The older dam has hued and notched beams which lay in the creek. Several more beams coming from the bank and large iron spikes in some. Campbell County, Georgia, district map 1 shows Green as the mill owner in this same location. Green purchased this mill 13 September 1859 from Hiram Bowen who owned the mill prior to 1850. The mill is listed as: west side of land lot 79, district 1 Campbell County, Georgia, 140 acres. The dividing line to commence in the creek on the south side, run up to the fork below the saw mill, etc., with saw mill cotton machine and all the appuntances. Recorded 02 October 1861." Same reference-Page 628: 13 September 1859. Green T. McGuire, for $112, sold John S. Bobo a portion of lot 79, 1 District of originally Coweta County, now Campbell County, the line to commemence at the N. Lone where the main north prong of Anawoka intersects lot 79, etc., till just below the saw mill etc., near where the north line crosses the road which leads from the saw mill and crosses the public road west of WM. C. Cases?, etc., 20 acres. Wit: Caleb P. Bowen, W.C. Cash proved 06 November 1860, recorded 12 January 1861--from a compiled land records book of old Campbell County, Georgia. Land records 1828 to 1854. Deed Books A, C, D, and E. The Douglas County, Georgia, Library has 2 copies.
Green was also a farmer and a gunsmith and was appointed a Post Master on Thursday, 11 December, 1879, for the Holland Gold Mine in Haralson County, Georgia. This Post Office was discontinued on 08 February 1880.
Green died on Sunday, 04 September 1898, at the age of seventy-eight. He is buried in the Friendship Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Paulding County, Georgia.
