Martha Mary McGuire was born on 20 March 1865 in Campbell County, Georgia. Called Mattie by her family, she was the eight child of thirteen children born to Green Tilman McGuire, Sr., and Mary Catherine Thomason. Mattie was married to F.E. Ragan by Justice of the Peace, Thomas M. Hamilton, in Douglas County, Georgia, on 08 November 1885. They later divorced, and Mattie was married to W.A. Hembree on 09 January 1895 in Douglas County, Georgia, by Justice of the Peace, A.A. McLarty.
