She was born on Nov. 25, 1926, in Stanley and was a daughter of the late Elmer Lee and Rita Mae Lucas Broyles.
On Aug. 5, 1946, she married Dempsey Hyde Stokes, who died on Dec. 26, 1982.
She is survived by two sons, Danny H. Stokes of Saginaw, Mich., and Randy D. Stokes of Nashville, Tenn.; two brothers, Thomas 'Bill' and the Rev. Aldine Pence, both of Stanley;
four sisters, Nellie Strauss of Oregon, Deloris E. Presgraves of Luray, Rose Marie Housden of Shenandoah and Mary Alger of Stanley; four grandchildren; and three great-grand-children.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Leonard Haskell Pence.
Burial in Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Luray.
