La Plata Home Press, October 10, 1935 - Reece Wooden, sixty-one, died at his home here Monday night after an illness of several months and had been seriously ill for the past few weeks.
Reece Wooden, son of Jefferson and Laura Wooden, was born in Carroll County, Missouri August 30, 1874 and died at La Plata, Missouri, October 7, 1935. He was married to Miss Florialla O'Rourk on October 16, 1893 and to this union nine children were born, one son and eight daughters, L. Earl Wooden of Quanah, Texas, Mrs. Lauren Parks who preceded her father in death ten years ago, Mrs. Edmund Guier of Blackburn, Missouri, Mrs. Joe Arment of La Plata, Mrs. J.I. Griffin of Elmer, Mrs. Frank Mitts of Clarence, Mrs. Gilbert Kygger of Chicago, Mrs. Raymond Garrett of West Plains, Missouri and Miss Orpha Joyce Wooden at the family home.
Mr. Wooden and his family lived in the Elmer Community about eighteen years before going to West Plains where they resided six years, returning to their old home at Elmer this last February and moved to La Plata a short time ago.
The Deceased was a member of the New Salem Baptist Church and his membership still remained with that church, having joined there when young.
Besided his wife and eight children he is survived by three brothers, Dr. I.M. Wooden of Chillicothe and Cleveland and William Wooden of Kansas City and twenty-three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at 1:00, October 9th, at the Baptist Church in Elmer, conducted by Rev. Basil Bell of the Pentocastal Church. Burial was made in the Elmer Cemetery.
