Christiana Rosina Kurtz was born in Mudgee, Australia on June 6, 1866. Her parents were Andreas and Anna Rosine Kurtz, Australian immigrants from Germany. On April 27, 1887 she married Iram James. In the late 1890's her husband Iram met and worked for Ellen G White of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. EGW returned to the United States and offered Iram employment as her master gardener at her Elmshaven estate in St. Helena, Napa, CA. In Dec 1900 Iram, Christiana and their 6 children sailed for San Francisco on the "Mariposa" and immigrated to America. Iram and Christiana were very devout in their faith. They raised a total of 13 children. Christiana died in 1934 and Iram died April 10, 1939. They are buried in the St. Helena Public Cemetery, St. Helena, California.
