George was a very quiet sweet man. He smoked a pipe and wore a cap. His parents both died before he was 13 and that is when he immigrated to the USA alone. He arrived in NY aboard the Fulda on 8th July 1890. He settled in Newark, later moving to Kearny and North Arlington. He worked as driver for a baking company. His sister Meta arrived a few years before him 25 Oct 1887 aboard the Elbe. He met Katie Thrum at the Turnverein in Irvington. He married Katie on 15th Jun 1898. George played the piano. He told us he played with Madam Schuman Heinke. He also said he played at the Castle in Germany with Wilhelm the son of Kaiser Wilhelm. If he played with Wilhelm it was because his father was a brick layer, mauer and he may have worked on the Castle and brought George with him. George and Katie had 4 children, 3 that lived to adulthood. I remember him singing KKK Katy Beautiful Katy, a song back then to Katie. They both sang songs to us in German. Oh yes, he loved his German Bock Beer and Grandma her Manischewitz wine. You will always be remembered. You are loved. God bless you.
