FORMER WIFE OF AMBROSE BIERCE DIES SUDDENLY

Secured a Divorce in Local Court Only a Few Weeks Ago

Mrs. Mary E. Bierce, former wife of Ambrose Bierce, the author-journalist, died of heart trouble yesterday morning at her home, 1032 South Figueroa street. With her at the time of her death was her only daughter, Mrs. Samuel Ballard of Washington, D. C., who arrived in Los Angeles Sunday for a visit with her mother. Until last Friday Mrs. Bierce was in good health and her death came without warning.

A brother, James Day, who resides in Los Angeles, is out of the city and has not yet been notified. Mrs. Bierce about two months ago got a divorce from her husband in the local courts. Relatives have been notified and it is possible the remains will be taken east for interment.
