JAMES ALEXANDER WRIGHT

James Alexander Wright was born Jan. 10, 1885 in Boone county, Nebr., and moved to Iowa with his parents at an early age. He passed away Jan. 1, 1957, at his home in Woodburn, Iowa, at the age of 71 years, 11 months and 22 days. The fourth in a family of twelve children to David and Susan Wright, he was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.

He was united in marriage to Winifred Stubbs Dec. 18, 1905 at Chariton, Iowa. To this union thirteen children were born. One daughter, Marjorie, preceded him in death at the age of 10. Those left to mourn his passing besides his wife are sons, Kenneth, David and Bob of Woodburn, Wayne of Prescott, Ariz., Clarence of Chariton, Willard of Russell; daughters, Dorotha Horton and Nell Wright of Woodburn, Hazel Horton of Seymour, Elaine Smith of Atlantic, Mildred Barger of Council Bluffs, and Eula Coble of Higbee, Mo.; thirty-seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, and a host of nephews and nieces. Also eight brothers, Jesse, Everette, Tell, Ben and Claude of Oklahoma Pearlie of Montana, George of Nebraska and Art of Woodburn; and two sisters, Mary Boggs of Weldon and Fannie Dexter of Humeston.

He professed his faith in the Lord at East Concord in 1933 and taught a Sunday school class there for several years. He took an active interest in community affairs and was president of the Iowa State Fox Hunters association for a number of years.

A friend and neighbor from us has gone, whose voice and smile we hold dear. Knowing that if he could return, that voice and smile we would treasure to the end.

Services were held at the Webster Funeral home Saturday, January 5, 1957, at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Elmer Clark of Woodburn officiated and burial was in Las Chance cemetery.
