DEXTER


Funeral services were held Oct. 17, 1988 at Last Chance Church for Fannie Dexter, 102. The longtime Humeston resident had been ill about a month in Council Bluffs, where she had made her home with a daughter in recent years.


A grandson, the Rev. Ted Bretz, of Wichita, Kansas, conducted the services. Burial was at Last Chance Cemetery. Her grandsons served as pallbearers.


Fannie Elizabeth Dexter was born Oct. 4, 1886, in Decatur, Neb. She died Oct. 14, 1988 at the age of 102 years, 10 days. She was the daughter of David and Susan Wright, the fifth child in a family of 12.


She was married to Hiram Luther (Pete) Dexter Jan. 30, 1901, at Stroud, Oklahoma. They were married 69 years before his death in February, 1970, and were the parents of nine children. They farmed in the latter part of their working years in Lucas and Clarke counties.


After retirement, they moved to Humeston and lived there for 40 years. For the last 10 years, she has made her home with her daughter, Twyla Morrow and her husband James, in Council Bluffs.


She accepted Christ as her Saviour as a young woman, was baptized and became a member of the Last Chance Church in 1922.


Mrs. Dexter was preceded in death by her daughter, Mrs. Emma McWilliams, in 1978; a son-in-law; two grandsons, Charles Manuel McWilliams and Carrol Dexter; and a great-granddaughter, Pamela Sue Dexter.


Survivors include her eight children: Elsie Bretz, of Wichita, Kans.; Floyd Dexter, Chariton; Mary Whiteside, Andover, Kans.; Twyla Morrow, Council Bluffs; Fred Dexter, Knoxville; Chester Dexter, Des Moines; James Dexter, Valley Center, Kans.; and Betty Kealy, Council Bluffs.


Also surviving are four sons-in-law; four daughters-in-law; one brother, Claud Wright, Cushing, Okla.; 24 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
