David Franklin 'Dave' Flinn was born June 7, 1865 in Iowa (either Page Co or Taylor Co) to Josiah Flynn/Flinn and Mary Ann Miller. He came with his parents and siblings to Kansas in about 1872 and the family settled in Plum Creek Township, Mitchell County, Kansas. Dave married Mamie Stout in about 1909. To this union were born five children being Joseph F. 'Joe', Mary A., Ida M., Sam Franklin and Opal M. Flinn. Dave and Mamie both passed away in 1929 leaving five children under the age of 21. IBy the end of 1929, oldest son Joe had enlisted in the U.S. Navy, daughters Mary and Ida were placed in the Girl's Industrial School at Beloit, Kansas and the two youngest children, Sam and Opal were placed in the State Orphan's Home in Atchison, Kansas.
