He emigrated via Christiana, Norway and arrived in New York with his mother and siblings on on the SS Heckla, Thingvalla Line, about September 1891.

He worked as a carpenter and cabinet maker in the University District of Seattle , Wa for 36 years. He was owner or part owner of the Davis and Westby Cabinet and Carpenter Shop there. He helped built the Governor's mansion in Seattle, WA.
