Henry Carl Westby of Nevis died Sunday, November 10 at Nevis at the age of 73. A farmer and part time carpenter, Mr. Westby was a longtime resident of Nevis. He was a Veteran of World War I, serving in the U. S. Navy (as fireman) from 1918 to 1919.
Born June 9, 1895 in Wiota, WI, he was the son of Halvor and Kari Westby. He attended school at the Blue Grass Elementary from 1901 to 1910. Blue Grass was his home from 1896 to 1929.
On April 12, 1919, he married Lillie Skaro in Sebeka. They moved to Nevis in 1929 where they lived until 1945 when they moved to Effie, MN. In 1959 they returned to Nevis to make their home. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church; and his hobbies were hunting, fishing, trapping and gardening.
Surviving are his wife Lillie; a son Harold of St. Paul; three daughters, Ruth Spurlin of Nevis, Mrs. Warren (Margery) Batterson of Portland, Ore., and Mrs. Leonard (Betty) Hocking; 22 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Also survivnig are a brother Hjalmer Westby of Sebeka and three sisters, Olga Jordahl of Verndale, Tina Lundberg of Concord, Calif., and Hilda Grotte of Scoby, Mont.
Preceding him in death were a son, Gaylord who died July 10, 1961, two sisters and three brothers.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 13 at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Nevis with the Rev. U. A. Turmo officiating. Interment was in the Lakeview cemetery.
