Katherine was born in Bath, South Carolina, on June 10, 1922, and lived In Langley, Aiken County through the 3rd grade. When she returned home on that last day of school, she discovered her family waiting for her. They were moving. They moved to Augusta Georgia, and Katherine was not sent back to school. Instead, at the age of 9, she had to stay home and take care of the house and the younger brothers and sisters, while her parents went to work in the cotton mills. What she learned after that, she taught herself.

She was called "Sister" by her brothers and sisters.

One day Amos was sitting on the front porch swing with a friend he was visiting, when he saw two young girls cross the road nearby. "See that dark headed girl down there", he said, to which his friend replied "yes, that's my cousin Katherine Brown". And Amos said, "Well, that's the girl I'm going to marry". They married on April 23, 1939.

It took three trips to the courthouse for my parents to get married. The first two times she backed out. The third time, when they reached the courthouse, her father asked, "well, Katherine, are you going up those steps this time?'". To which Daddy quickly replied, " Hell Yes. She's going up those steps if I have to carry her."
I've research my mother's male cousins and have concluded that the cousin sitting on the swing with my father was either Jesse or Joseph Logan. More likely Jesse.
