At one time, he played in a band, with a friend, (and I believe a cousin to my grandmother) Robert McDonald. He worked in the cotton mill, run an ice house, and grew and sold flowers and plants to local florists.
When he was 53, 3 days after the birth on his granddaughter, Deborah, he had a heart attack and died. His son Marion was in the Army, and stationed in Korea at the time. Although the Red Cross was contacted, Uncle Marion never was told of his father's death, learning of it instead 3 months later when his sister Betty wrote and said "Well, Daddy's been dead 3 months now."
