Bertha was born in Irwin Township, Venango Co., PA. She was the twin sister of Myrtle Matilda Eakin. Besides Myrtle she had another sister named Elizabeth and 4 brothers named Sherman, Levi, John and Lewis.

She married John Calvin Adams on July 8th, 1890 in Butler County, Pennsylvania. They had 4 children they named: Emily Alice, Oscar Henry, Lillian Olive and Pearl Adams.

John and Bertha left Pennsylvania and spent some time in Indiana before arriving in Oregon in 1898. Upon arrival in Oregon they took up homesteading near Grass Valley in Sherman County, raising stock and farming several very large fields of wheat.

Bertha Bell Adams died at her home in The Dalles Saturday night after a long illness. She came to Oregon from Barkeyville, Pa., where she was born 75 years ago. For 50 years she has lived near Kent and Hood River in later years.

Surviving are a son, Oscar of Hood River, two daughters, Mrs. Olive Helyer and Mrs. Pearl Eakin of The Dalles, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services were held in The Dalles Tuesday afternoon with interment in Idlewild cemetery at Hood River, the Rev. Marion Smith giving the sermon. Many Sherman Countians attended the services.
