Washington Moxley, son of Samuel Moxley
(1800-1878) native of VA and Laura Kilborn
(1812-1838)native of Leeds County, Ontario.
Like his father he was involved in farming.
When his father and step-mother moved from
Waterloo, Ontario to Fayette Cty. PA in
1853, Washington followed however he kept
in touch with his relatives and friends in
Waterloo.

On Jan. 22, 1868 he was married at the home
of his bride's parents - Martin Kitchen
(1818-1897) and Lorenda Crandell(1818-1899)
of St. George, S.Dumfries Twp.,Brant County,
Ontario, Canada.
Soon after, the couple relocated to Salt River
Twp., Shelby County, Missouri. This is where
his father and step-mother had relocated from
PA in 1867.

Their four children were born and raised in
Shelby County:
(1) Martin Wesley
(2) Elma Alice
(3) Lillian Mae
(4) George Roy

In 1901 Washington and Alice moved from MO
with their three youngest children to Merced,
CA and operated a peach farm on McSwain Rd.
in British Colony, situated on the northwest
outskirts of Merced. (Martin, their eldest,
had already moved to CA prior to 1901.)

Washington had a sister, Mary Jane, born two
years before him but additional info is
unknown. He also had 11 half-siblings (refer
to his father's memorial).

Washington Moxley Dead

Washington Moxley died at his home in British Colony at an early hour Thursday morning, the cause of death being heart failure. The deceased was a native of Canada and was aged 74 y, 0 m. 6 d. He had been a resident of Merced county for about ten years, during which time he made many friends by whom the news of his unexpected death was received with genuine regret. He leaves two sons and two daughters to mourn his death. They are M. W. Moxley of Santa Rosa and Mrs. Raleigh Casad, Elma A. and George R. Moxley of Merced. The funeral will take place from the Cumberland Presbyterian Church this Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock.
