On Oct. 4, 1904, Mayme gave birth to Walter Jr., apparently her only child. By 1910, the Census indicates the Baldwins had moved to Mount Vernon, Ind. They continued there at 823 W. Fourth Street in the 1920 Census. Walter Jr. played basketball at Mount Vernon High and was known as "Baldy the Bullet."
By 1930, they had returned to Evansville, owning a house valued at $4,500 at 1600 S. Morton Ave. About this time, their niece, Betty Myers, lost her father and came to live with the Baldwins while her mother, Margaret, went to work in Louisville. Betty later remembered the home, writing: "I thought it was a very GRAND, brick house on the corner." Betty lived with the Baldwins for about three years before moving to Louisville after her mother remarried.
Mayme was an active member and past matron of St. Paul Episcopal Church, the Sunbeam Chapter of Eastern Star in Mount Vernon and the Women's Mason organization.
Husband Walter died May 14, 1934 at the Morton Avenue home after 33 years as a conductor with C&EI Roalroad. Mayme went to work as a practical nurse, selling the Morton Avenue home. She died at her sister Josephine Platz's house at 706 Court Street in Evansville. She is buried at Memorial Park Cemetery in Evansville. By then Walter Jr., an executive with Standard Oil, lived in Milwaukee. An avid golfer, he died there April 12, 1982, leaving wife Kaye and daughter Susan.
