Betty Mae Bishop, 86, of School Street in Bruin died at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Clar-view Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Sligo, after a brief illness. She had lived at Clarview since Dec. 1.

Born Sept. 20, 1920, in Sligo, Clarion County, she was the daughter of Seth A. and Mary V. Wiser Simpson.

She was a 1938 graduate of Sligo High School and had been a cafeteria manager for the the Karns City School District at the Bruin School for 30 years before retiring in 1982.

Mrs. Bishop was a member of the Martinsburg Community Church in Bruin and the Goodwill Sunday School Class of the church. She also was a member of the Bruin Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and the AARP.

She enjoyed lawn work, gardening and spending time with her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

Surviving are a brother and his wife, Dean and Bernice Simpson of Rimersburg; a sister and her husband, Jennie and Francis "Poss" Haun of Sligo; a sister-in-law, Lois Simpson of Sligo; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

Her husband, John R. Bishop, whom she married Oct. 12, 1948, in Winchester, Va., died April 12, 1988. She also was preceded in death by a brother, William Simpson, who died in 1977; two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Rummel, who died Dec. 15, 1994, and Patricia Elder, who died Oct. 13, 1993; and a nephew, Gary Rummel, who died June 20, 2002.

BISHOP - Friends of Betty Mae Bishop, who died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2006, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Richard D. Hillis Funeral Home, 102 Argyle St., Petrolia. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Matthew Van Gorden, her church pastor, officiating.

Burial will follow at the Bear Creek Cemetery, Petrolia.

Memorial donations may be made to Martinsburg Community Church, P.O. Box E, Bruin, 16022.
