Kenneth Dean Simpson, 83, of Colerain Street, Sligo, passed away at 2:25 a.m. Wednesday April 15, 2009, at the Clarion Hospital, following a brief illness.

Born March 15, 1926, in Sligo, he was a son of the late Seth A. Simpson and Mary V. Wiser Simpson.

He was first married to Doris I. Dunkle, who died Jan. 1, 1981.

Mr. Simpson was married June 20, 1992, in Sligo, to Bernice Louise Switzer, who survives.

He was a member of the Sligo United Methodist Church and had attended Sligo schools.

Mr. Simpson served with the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He enjoyed walking and car rides.

He was employed by Bracken Construction and the Boise Cascade Mobile Home plant, now Commodore Homes in Clarion, prior to his disability.

In addition to his second wife, Mr. Simpson is survived by a daughter, Susan A. Lantelme and her husband, Barry K., of Rimersburg; two grandchildren, Jennica S. Lantelme of Charlotte, N.C. and Jeffrey K. Lantelme of Rimersburg; two step-sons, Ricky R. Hawk and his wife, Mary, of Fenelton and Reynold P. Hawk of Ocala, Fla.; five step-grandchildren, Ricky J. Hawk and his wife, Ange, of Rimersburg, Tammy L. Dunmyre and her husband, Terry L., of Fenelton, Paula J. Davis and her husband, Justin, of Roanoke, Va., Reynold P. Hawk Jr. of Roanoke, Va. and Suzanne Hawk of Ocala, Fla.

He is also survived by nine step great-grandsons and three step great-granddaughters; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Lois Simpson of Sligo; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and first wife, Mr. Simpson was preceded in death by a brother, William Simpson; and four sisters, Ruth Rummel, Patricia Elder, Betty Bishop and Jennie Haun.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Richard D. Hillis Funeral Home in Rimersburg.

Funeral services wil be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Rick Russell, pastor of the Sligo United Methodist Church, officiating.

Interment will follow in the Sligo Cemetery.

Members of the Rimersburg American Legion and VFW will provide military honors at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sligo United Methodist Church, Sligo, 16255.
