William S Bierly Succumbs After Long Illness
Farm Operator of Southwest of City Dies at Lafayette Hospital Last Evening
William J. Bierly, prominent farm operator of southwest of Rensselaer, passed away at St. Elizabeth hospital in Lafayette, at 7:17 o'clock Monday night. His death followed an illness that began late June. He entered the Lafayette hospital eleven days ago, and previously was a patient at the local hospital for many weeks.
Mr. Bierley was born south of Surrey in Newton township on March 23, 1881, the son of Jacob Bierley and Mary Ann (Groom Bierley). He was educated in the schools of his community, following which he began a farming career in which he was quite successful. He was married to Miss Ruth Biggs on January 2, 1902. She passed away in March 1947.
Surviving are the following children: Winifred Bierley of Brook, Jess Bierley of Kentland, Mrs. Ivan Handley of Rensselaer, William Bierley Jr. residing at the farmstead, and Rex Bierley of Gary. Other immediate survivors are two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Salyers of Seattle, Wash. and Mrs. John Swint of Tacoma, Washington and a brother, Milton Bierly of Nortonville.
Mr. Bierley was widely known and well liked. He was an industrious progressive citizen who earned te greatest of esteem from his neighborys and other friends. His death came as a great shock to the many who knew him.
Funeral servic will be conducted at 2 o'clock CST Friday afternoon from W.J. Wright Chapel. The Rev. Earl Moore will be in charge. Burial will be at Weston cemetery. The remains are at the chapel.
