Robert L. Ramsey was first married to Elizabeth Sullivan/Sullivant. There were married in Crawford Co, MO on Oct 3, 1833. Elizabeth Sullivan was born on/a 1815 and died ca 1838. She was the daughter of Mark Sullivan and Fannie Hughes. The only known child born to Robert L. and Elizabeth Sullivan Ramsey was Mark Sullivan Ramsey born ca 1838. Mark married Martha Jane Pattie in May 1861. Shortly after his marriage, Mark served with the Confederate Army durng the civil war and contacted Small Pox while a prisoner of war. He died Nov 13, 1863 and is buried in the North Alton Confederate Cemetery in Alton, IL. After Mark's death Martha Jane Pattie Ramsey married Elijah M. Kinsey.

After the death of Elizabeth Sullivan Ramsey, Robert L. married Mary Jane Avery, daughter of John Avery. It is not know when Mary Jane died. It is suspected she is buried in the Ramsey Cemetery as her husband, Robert is buried there. Robert L. and Mary Jane had the following children: James K.P., Diannah, Julian, Lewis N. and William Robert S. Ramsey.

Note: Some researchers has Robert's middle name as Leroy. NO document has been found to confirm this. Would like documentation before adding middle name as Leroy. Robert's dad, was Delafayette, most often called "Lafayette". Wanda, contributor

1862: Rolla Express, 9 Aug 1862, pge 2E, 1-2 - Maries County, MO - Scout under Capt, Inf, left Rolla 6 August. Inquired at houses of R.L. Ramsey and William Simpson. Thence to Vienna where met Capt. Latham. Detach. on 8th East of Gasconade to Paydown. Killed a man named Moon. Returned to Rolla with Prisoners: Wm Simpson, John Hoops, Sam'l Westlake and R.L. RAMSEY.

(Note from records of Leonard L. Bade: "It appears that Robert L. as a slave holder was under suspicion of being a confederate sympathizer. He apparently was arrested and taken to the Union Fort at Rolla as a prisoner. Most of these men would then take an oath of allegiance to the Union and would be released. I assume this is what happened".)
