Christina was born Crescenzia Scaringi in Muro Lucano, Italy. She was the daughter of Carlo Scaringi and Maria Donata Tetti. Her paternal grandparents were Michele Scaringi and Crescenzia Ferracane. Christina's maternal grandparents were Vito Teti and Rosa Iannoculla. She married George Sofie. The application for marriage was made on 12 December 1900 in Clallam County, Washington.

Vito Teti, Christina's grandfather was born in about 1791. Rosa Iannoculla was born in about 1806. They resided in Bela, Italy.

The children of Vito Teti and Rosa Iannoculla were:
1. Teresa Teti (born in about 1823 and died on 29 July 1855 in Bela)
2. Vincenzo Carmine Teti (born in 1831 at Bela)
3. Michelangelo Teti (born on 29 September 1834 at Bela)
4. Maria Donata Teti (born on 3 May 1838 at Bela)

Christina came to America in 1900 on the ship Tartar Prince and landed at the Port of New York on 27 November 1900. Along with Christina was Donantonio and Annamaria Lopilato. Also, with Christina was her sister in law, Maria Teresa Margiotta Sofie and Maria Lopilato, daughter on Donantonio and Annamaria.

Records of Ellis Island, New York, indicate that Christina was 22 years old, was unable to read or write, and had 10 dollars with her. Her destination was Blyn, Washington, to join her husband, George Sofie.

Christina had 12 children, 7 grew to adulthood. She raised her nephew, Frank Costa, after the death of her sister, Rose. She had many gardens on the farm, providing food for her family and her extended family.

Christina Scaringi Sofie died in her home, east of Sequim, a few months short of her 100th birthday.

Mass of Christian burial for Christina Sofie, 99, Sequim Rt. 2, Box 140, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Church of St. Joseph with Father Gerard Bussy officiating. Burial will be at Sequim View Cemetery under direction of Sequim Valley Chapel. Mrs. Sofie died in Sequim Wednesday.

Christina was born March 7, 1878, at Muro Lucano, Italy, to Carlo and Maria Scaringi. On Jan. 2, 1901, she married George Sofie in Sequim. He died in 1967. Mrs. Sofie had been a Sequim resident since 1900.

Christina enjoyed gardening and worked and cared for her garden until age 95. She was a member of Church of St. Joseph.

Surviving are a son, Austin Sofie, Seattle; a nephew, Frank Costa, Seattle, who was raised by the family; three daughters, Nathalie Angiuli, Sequim; Mrs. Merril lD. (Rose) Beham and Mrs. Theodore (Carmen) Laine, both of Bremerton, 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Her grandsons will act as pallbearers. Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of St. Joseph."
