Dr. David Ellis Powell was the son of Charles Powell and Leah Goldman. He married Lucinda Shoemaker on October 10, 1825 in Mercer County, Kentucky. They remained in Kentucky until around 1839 moving to Missouri and then onto Collin County, Texas where they remained until their death. For a period of time Dr. Powell was the only physician in Collin County during the Civil War times. They said he was often seen traveling the country in his horse and buggy. The following children were born to them: Mary Polly, Matilda Lucinda, Emeline, Sarah Catherine, Perlina Ann (my great grandmother), Thursa Francis, Martha J., Thomas Jefferson and George Washington Powell. Most of their children ended up in Collin County with their families. Dr. Powell died at Sunset, Montague County, Texas while visiting his daughter Perlina Ann.
