Funeral services for Mrs. Addie Farra Wherry, 87, a Memphis resident for 59 years, were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, in the First Baptist Church. Rev. John W. Bobo, pastor, officiated.
Burial was in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Spicer Funeral Home.
Miss Addie Pennington was born Dec. 22, 1881, in the Dailey Community in Houston County. She was united in marriage to Robert H. Wherry, a longtime Memphis jeweler, in 1908 in Grapeland. The couple came to Hall County in 1910. Mr. Wherry died in 1956. She passed away Monday afternoon in Hall County Hospital. Mrs. Wherry was a member of the First Baptist Church, where she was in the Golden Age Choir. She was a past president of the Delphian Club, a member of the Mystic Weavers Club and a past worthy matron of the Order of Eastern Star.
She is survived by: one daughter, Mrs. Florence Fitzjarrald of Amarillo; one sister, Mrs. Florence Dailey of Crockett; one brother, Earl Pennington of Grapeland; one granddaughter, Mrs. Kathryn Hayes of Del Rio; and one great-grandson, Robert Gene Hayes of Del Rio.
Pall bearers were Harvey Wines, Henry Hays, Dub Parker, Gene Lindsey, Jack B. Boone, Ace Gailey, O.M. Cosby, Jr., and Dick Fowler.
Honorary pall bearers were Ed Foxhall, Byron Baldwin, Jack L. Boone, John Fowler, Andrew Womack, W.E. Billington, John Deaver, Dr. H.R. Stevenson, Ben Parks, Jim McMurry, Wendell Harrison, R.C. Lemons, J.M. Ferrel and Allen Dunbar.
