Regarding the birth date of Herbert Bateman: I found that there is little relationship between the actual birthdates of some of these family members because of their illiteracy. This is my Great Grandmother's brother and when I obtained her birth registry from Stifford, Essex, England it was wrong as to day, month, and year. With the addition of Herbert's birth record from England the situation is nearly the same. Someone has substituted his LDS baby blessing date for his birth date, which is clearly noted on his English birth certificate as follows: Registration District Orsett;
1865 Birth in the Sub-district of Grays in the County of Essex;
birth: Sixth April 1865, Stifford;
name Herbert;
sex Boy;
father Alfred Bateman, Farm Labourer;
mother Esther Bateman, formerly Whiffin;
informant X the mark of Esther Bateman, mother, Stifford;
registered Fifteenth May 1865, by R B Jordison, registrar. Certificate number BXBZ004874, obtained by [LIVING], 01 Sep 2000, on application number W009092;1865,Jun Qtr, Orsett registration district, Vol. 4a, p127, entry 252.
