Arrah Bateman Wood 1909 ~ 2007 Arrah Margaret Bateman Wood, 98, beloved wife, mother grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, died peacefully on Sat., May 19, 2007, at the home of her daughter in Bountiful. Arrah was born Feb. 22, 1909, in Bloomington, Idaho, the second youngest of 10 children of Herbert and Mary Jane Madsen Bateman. She graduated from Fielding Academy in Paris, Idaho, then at the age of 18 came to Salt Lake to study at the LDS Business College. Arrah married Wallace Ashby Wood, Dec. 22, 1931 in the Salt Lake Temple. He passed away on June 6, 1984. They made their home on Capitol Hill and Ensign Downs, and for the past 60 years she has enjoyed her beautiful home and wonderful friends and neighbors. She belonged to three groups that met monthly for over 60 years, a sewing club, a study group, and pinochle club. These friends became very close to her, especially because none of her brothers and sisters lived close by. Arrah was a faithful member of the LDS Church all her life, serving in many positions. While Wallace served as a counselor in the Salt Lake Stake Presidency, she served as secretary and then counselor in the Stake Relief Society for 16 years. She and Wallace enjoyed traveling throughout the world, many times accompanied by their daughter, Elaine and her husband, Doug. She had a great talent for handwork, especially crocheting, and enjoyed making beautiful afghans, baby blankets, doilies, and snowflakes for others. Six years ago she moved in with her daughter and grandchildren where she received loving care. Despite her declining health, she remained mentally sharp and her presence will be greatly missed. She leaves behind her daughter Elaine Larsen, three grandchildren; Holli (Brandon) Gipson, Angela, and Jeffrey, great-grandson and the apple of her eye, Braydon Gipson, sister-in-law, Lark Bateman, and many loving family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Wallace Wood, son-in-law Douglas Larsen, and all nine of her brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held Sat., June 2, 2007, 12 noon at the Ensign Peak Chapel, 125 East No. Sandrun Road (940 North) in Salt Lake City, Utah. A viewing will be held Friday, June 1, from 6-8 p.m. at the Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple and Sat., from 10:30-11:30 at the church. Interment Salt Lake City Cemetery.
