CORNELIUS, ALTON BECK, 87, of the Easley Community, near Oneonta, passed away on Wednesday, September 15, 2004. He was a retired farmer and carpenter, and a member of the Easley Baptist Church, formerly Easley Church of the Brethren. He was an Army Veteran of World War II, serving at Scofield Barracks, Pearl Harbor Hawaii at the time of the attack on December 7, 1941. He also served in the South Pacific theater at the Battle of Tarawa and received the South Pacific Campaign Ribbon with two bronze stars. Survivors are son, James A. (Linda) Cornelius, Locust Fork; daughters, Rebecca (Richard) White, Addison and Carolyn (Junior) Faulkner, Easley; grandchildren, Danny Faulkner and Paul Faulkner, Easley, Debra (Darryl) Tarpley, Houston, Texas, Cande (Hoyt) Sanders, Pinson, Richard White, Jr., Addison; five great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild; brother, Jay Cornelius, Locust Fork; sister-in-law, Juanita (Kid) Cornelius; and a host of extended family members and many friends. Funeral Service will be Saturday, September 18, 2004 at the Lemley Funeral Chapel, Oneonta. Visitation will be Saturday from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Easley Baptist Church Cemetery, Blount County Road 33. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to Easley Baptist Church, c/o Maxey Baty, 31730 State Highway 79, Cleveland, AL 35049. Lemley Chapel Funeral Home directing.
